Nail Enhancements Common Problems

Here is a list of common problems and rectifying advice;

  • Nails broken
    Cause: Too long for client, Action: File down the free edge to a manageable shape and length for the client
  • Nails broken at stress zone
    Cause:Too long and stress zone not built up enough. Action: File down to stress line and rebuild stress zone.

    • Lifting

    Causes and actions;
    Cuticle or oil left on nail plate. : Perfect preparation.
    Overlay too thin: Add more product.
    Overlay too thick: File and buff it down.
    Product on skin: Smaller bead in zone 3.
    Enhancement too long: File and buff down.
    Not balanced correctly: Remove and reapply product.

  • Chipping at cuticle base
    Cause: Overlay too brittle or product too near to soft tissue. Action: File and buff down and reapply using a wetter ratio and check manufacturers instructions.

  • Chipping at free edge
    Cause: Overlay not capped or product too thin. Action: File and buff down and reapply product

  • Discolouration
    Cause: Contamination of product. Action: Use fresh products. hang brush downwards so brush does not hold old product or dust/dirt.

  • Yellow-green bacterial infection
    Cause: Water has got under the overlay. Natural nail not sanitised correctly. Moisture trapped under enhancement at infill services. Action: Depending on severity of infection. Either remove enhancements and reapply extensions or refer client to G.P. after removal.

  • Itching or redness of soft skin tissue
    Cause: Allergy. Action: Remove product and do a patch test. Or use a new product.
